As winter is approaching, the government has rescheduled the office schedule of government, semi-government, autonomous and semi-autonomous institutions. Office activities are running on the new schedule from yesterday Tuesday. As per the new schedule, the institutes will run from 9 am to 4 pm.
As the day progressed yesterday, the pressure of vehicles increased on various roads of the capital. Around 12 noon, traffic jams were seen in Kalyanpur and Ganabhaban areas on the way from Mirpur to Gulistan. However, after crossing Ganabhavan, the road to Sciencelab was empty. Light traffic is also seen from Sciencelab to Gulistan.
Imran Hossain commutes daily from Mirpur to Gulistan for office work. He said, ‘Due to the closure of the New Market area, there is less traffic today. Otherwise there is always a lot of traffic. ‘
However, the reverse of this picture was seen after 3 pm. There was heavy traffic on the entire road from Gulistan to Kuril Bishwar Road. Even on the flyover in Malibagh area, heavy traffic is seen. The situation in Kakrail Mor, Malibagh, Rampura, North Badda and Newbazar was almost the same.
Ordinary people are fed up with this traffic jam. Rifat Hasan was coming from Paltan Mor to North Badda. He told Kal Kantha, ‘The road in Dhaka city now takes two to three hours. So what is left of the day?’
Alif Mia, the driver of the Victor bus, said that he could not make a proper trip due to the traffic jam. He told Kal Kantha, ‘The whole day goes by giving two trips. By driving the car like this, I can neither earn two rupees nor pay the owner. ‘
Office-goers and working people suffered due to heavy traffic on Mirpur road, Farmgate to Shahbagh, Paltan, Moghbazar, Badda and Airport roads of the capital since 9 am. At this time, due to long traffic jams, traffic pressure is seen on the road, which increases as the day progresses.
Dhaka Metropolitan Traffic Police Additional Commissioner (Traffic) asked about the overall picture and control of the traffic jam. Manibur Rahman told Kal Kantha, ‘The pressure of cars on the road is already more than the capacity. Apart from this, traffic congestion is sometimes caused due to special reasons. But we always try to keep the capital free of traffic jams. This effort is ongoing. ‘
Regarding the cause of traffic jam in different areas of the capital since yesterday morning, Monibur Rahman said that a big lorry broke down on the road in Mohammadpur area in the morning. There was a traffic jam in the area until it was removed from the road around 12 noon. Apart from this, if a car breaks down on the road in Khilkhet area, some traffic jam is created on that road until it is removed. Apart from this, the work of Banani four lane road is going on. It slows the car down there. It is also a cause of traffic jam. Again in the morning due to the examination there was pressure on the road. There was traffic jam in different areas of the capital. However, the traffic congestion was under control after noon.

In the afternoon, there was heavy traffic through Shaheed Tajuddin Avenue, Tejgaon Industrial Area, Mohakhali, Moghbazar, Kakali till Banani. However, the traffic flow was almost normal till Sector 6 of Uttara via Farmgate, Vijay Sarani via Mirpur Road, Khilkhet and Jorsahara.
Describing the journey from Mirpur to Sadarghat workplace, Jaliz Mahmud, a government employee, said that the traffic was like any other day. However, the number of public transport on the road was relatively less that day. On the way back there was heavy traffic. On the way back through Moghbazar, I had to get into traffic for an extra hour and a half.
It should be noted that on November 1, the Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification rescheduling the office schedule of government, semi-government, autonomous and semi-autonomous institutions. The previous day on October 31, the Cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office took a decision in this regard. Earlier, the office schedule was changed from 8 am to 3 pm from August 24 to save electricity and energy.
