POBNEWS24, Dhaka Mar 30, 2021:Abdul Quader Mirza, the prominent mayor of Noakhali’s Basurhat municipality, had organized a mourning rally for the death of BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed, but the police did not allow him to hold a mourning rally. People from Kompaniganj police station were asked to postpone the rally on Sunday noon. After that, Mayor Quader Mirza came on Facebook Live and expressed his anger and said that the consequences of closing the mourning rally of a national leader will not be good. He claims that there is a conspiracy to remove him from politics.

Quader Mirza held a memorial service on the occasion of the death anniversary of President Zillur Rahman at Basurhat Municipality auditorium at 5 pm on Saturday. From that meeting, he gave the program of Moudud Ahmed’s mourning meeting in the same auditorium at 4 pm on Sunday.

Earlier, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader’s younger brother Mayor Abdul Quader declared three days of mourning in Basurhat Municipality over the death of Mirza Moudud Ahmed.

Companiganj Police Station OC Mir Jahedul Haque Rony confirmed the closure of the rally and told reporters that the police were on high alert.

On the instructions of the authorities, Quader Mirza was asked to postpone the rally called at the Basurhat Municipality auditorium at around 1pm yesterday.

‘Closing the mourning rally will not have good results’

Quader Mirza came live from his Facebook account at 2pm yesterday after the police instructed him to suspend Moudud’s rally. He said, ‘Barrister Moudud Ahmed is the son of Kriti of Companiganj. He is a national leader. I, as an elected representative, organize a milad mahfil in the municipality on Sunday afternoon for the forgiveness of his soul. Suddenly at noon a policeman from Kompaniganj police station came and asked to postpone the milad mahfil. When I immediately asked the DIG of Chittagong Range about this, he told me not to hold a protest.

At that time, Quader Mirza pointed to his brother Obaidul Quader and said, ‘One of our leaders has said, if someone is bad, why shouldn’t we be good. Netaji’s statement is for the people, it does not apply to himself. What you are doing as a parent here will one day be rewarded. Guardians who claim themselves. Is this the job of a guardian? Is it the guardian’s job to stop the mourning? ‘ “There are various conspiracies going on today from the top to the bottom of the party, from different levels of the administration, to shorten me like this,” he said. When those who come to power in Bangladesh. Some people think it is his family property. Do what you want, say what you want. Outside of that I don’t want to say anything. Today’s program has been stopped to stop me, to shut my mouth, to remove me from politics, to tarnish my image. The consequences will not be good, I know. Those who have given this instruction, one day you too will be humiliated, insulted and wait for such instruction. ‘

Quader Mirza came to the discussion by speaking against the party leaders at various times before the municipal elections. The local Awami League leaders started criticizing him. The situation became conflicted through counter-programs. A local journalist and Juba League activist was killed in a clash between the opposition and Quader Mirza’s followers.

Quader Mirza said on Facebook Live, “Propaganda is being spread here today or they have been told from a high level that if Abdul Quader Mirza is to keep his mouth shut, those around him must be removed anyway.” Who is doing this to remove everyone from my cunning side, will one day prove. Who will come out one day. Today I want to say in clear language, those who are in the administration, today some people in the administration get masohara. They make money by committing various irregularities here, today they are drunk for it. Abdul Quader Mirza has to be removed because I am speaking against the irregularities that are going on in Noakhali and Feni using the administration including anti-politics, job trade. I am speaking out against the corruption of government employees here. He wants to remove me today for that. ‘ He added: “I will say plainly that the more weapons you use, the more you plot, I cannot be moved away from the truth under any circumstances. I will speak the truth with courage. Who is it going for, who is it going against, I can’t say. I will just say, you can break a vase full of roses, but you can never remove the smell of roses from the air. ‘
