POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Jan 8, 2022: Vice Chairman of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said the killing of Bangladeshi nationals along the border is not being stopped due to the government’s subservient foreign policy.
We don’t want any more Felani hanging on the barbed wire. We do not want to see the death of Bangladeshi citizens at the border. We need to gain strength,” he said. By uniting the people, I will establish a nationalist government and restore the basic rights of the people.
He made the remarks while addressing a Labor Party convention at the National Press Club on Friday afternoon.
Major Hafiz said that every institution has been destroyed now. The judiciary has no independence, the chief justice has had to leave the country. He said that the movement of BNP to remove the present government is seeing a line of light at the end of the tunnel.
“We can see the line of light at the end of the tunnel,” he said. The life span of this government is not long. There are a lot of people gathering on the highway, ordinary people are also coming. Change will come.
Referring to the fact that independent candidates are ahead of the Awami League in the ongoing UP elections, the BNP vice chairman said, “The Awami League is sinking in the Union Parishad elections, the boat is sinking.” Independent and opposition candidates are winning. They are not able to win the election even after so much rigging. Because people hate them.
He said, we got to see what the Awami League looks like through one Murad Hasan. There are innumerable such Murad Hasan. Murad Hassan is the ‘Tip of the Iceberg’. Most of the Murad Hasans are under water, their appearance is not visible yet. If the government changes, Murad Hasan will get innumerable. That day is not far away, wait.
Referring to the recent US sanctions on a force in the country, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said that they (Awami League) will not be able to hold elections in Nishirat (at dead of night) in the coming days. As the world’s superpowers have fallen, one ban after another is being imposed. Many more bans will come. Although it is a shame for the country.
Complaining that the government was ‘hurting’ BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in retaliation, he said, “Now the people should take to the streets under the leadership of the BNP and bid farewell to this government.”
The conference was organized by the Bangladesh Labor Party at the Press Club on the day of Felani’s assassination on January 7.
Advocate Zahura Khatun Jasmine, Executive Director, Human Rights Protection Agency, presented the keynote address.
It may be mentioned that on January 7, 2011, Bangladeshi teenager Felani Khatun was shot dead by Indian BSF at the Anantapur border of Nageshwari police station in Kurigram. Her body was found hanging on a barbed wire for five hours.
The Labor Party has been observing Felani Murder Day every year to protest the brutal incident.
Jatiya Party Chairman Mostafa Jamal Haider, Christian Association President Albert P. Costa, Labor Party Acting Secretary General Faruk Rahman, Vice Chairman Mosleh Uddin, Ramkrishna Saha, BNP Marginal Affairs Secretary Arpana Roy Das also spoke.
