POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Mar 2, 2022 : President. Abdul Hamid said, “I hope the Bangladesh Election Commission will fulfill its responsibility to continue the progress of democracy in the country.”
He said this in a message given on the occasion of ‘National Voters’ Day 2022′ on Wednesday (March 2).
The President said that the celebration of ‘National Voters’ Day’ for the fourth time in the country is a commendable initiative keeping in view the theme ‘Promise of Mujib Year, I will protect the right to vote’. I think the theme is aimed at creating awareness among the people of the country, especially the younger generation, about the inclusion of names in the electoral rolls and the exercise of the right to vote.
He said it was the responsibility of the Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) to ensure smooth conduct of elections at all levels including local government and parliamentary elections. The Election Commission has started using digital technology in its service activities and electronic voting machines in the voting system, which is conducive to a fair and acceptable election. I thank the Election Commission for their initiative.
Abdul Hamid said that in a democratic society, a voter exercises his constitutional right to vote and participates in the running of the state through his elected representatives. The role of the Election Commission is very important in this process. The Election Commission has been updating the voter list on a regular basis by including the names of the citizens in the voter list, deleting the names of the deceased voters and transferring the names of the transferred voters to their respective constituencies. Following this, the publication of the final list of voters included in the update program on National Voters’ Day today is a commendable achievement.
He said that besides registration of voters, Bangladesh Election Commission also issues national identity cards to the citizens. Demographic and other biometric information, including photographs and fingerprints of all citizens over the age of 18, is stored in a computer-based database, which is used by various government and non-government service providers to verify and verify citizen identity. I hope that the Election Commission will continue its efforts to provide accurate voter lists as well as accurate and timely national identity card services.
I wish success to all the activities taken for the celebration of ‘National Voters Day 2022’, said the President.
