POBNEWS24 Dhaka Nov 7, 2025: On the birth centenary of Ritwik Ghatak, the Bangladeshi film ‘Titas Ekti Nadir Naam’ was screened as the first film at the Kolkata International Film Festival. The film was screened at Kolkata’s Nandan Theatre.
The film ‘Titas Ekti Nadir Naam’ is now preserved in the Channel I archive in Bangladesh. Channel I said in a release that the film’s producer Habibur Rahman Khan went to Kolkata to participate in the film festival.
Describing the history of the film’s production at that time, he said that he stayed with Ritwik Ghatak for a whole year to make the film. He did not even go to see his face after the birth of his first child.
In addition to Habibur Rahman Khan, the festival chairman Gautam Ghosh and Bangladesh’s Deputy Ambassador Ashraful Islam spoke at the beginning of the film festival. Kolkata actor Parambrata Chatterjee moderated the event.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the 31st International Kolkata Film Festival on Thursday at Dhandhanya Auditorium in Kolkata.
A total of 215 films from 39 countries are being screened in 23 theaters at the 31st Kolkata Film Festival. The festival will continue till November 13.
Directed by Ritwik Ghatak, this film, based on Advaita Mallavarman’s classic novel ‘Titas Ekti Nadir Naam’ after independence, reflects the life, love and folk traditions of the people living on the banks of the Titas River. This film is a milestone in the history of Bengali cinema.
The film starred Prabir Mitra, Kabori, Fakhrul Hasan Bairagi, Golam Mustafa, Kader Mia, Rawshan Jamil, Sirajul Islam, Rozi Afsari, Rani Sarkar, Ritwik Ghatak, Abul Hayat, Khalil and many others.
The music director of the film was Ustad Bahadur Hossain Khan. The cinematographer was Baby Islam.
Ritwik Ghatak was born in Old Dhaka on November 4, 1925. Tuesday was the 100th birth anniversary of this genius of Bengali cinema.
