History of Lailatul Qadr
Lailatul Qadr is a blessed and glorious night for Muslims. Because Allah Ta’ala has revealed the Noble Qur’an in this night and Allah Ta’ala has revealed a Surah in the name of this night. The status of this night is better than a thousand months of worship.
History of Lailatul Qadr
Meaning of Lailatul Qadr
Lailatun means night, dew. In Persian it is called Shab. And Qadr means greatness and respect. It is called Lailatul Qadr because of its honor. Abu Bakr Warraq (RA) said, the reason why this night is called Lailatul Qadr is that those who had no honor and value before due to non-deeds, become honored in this night through repentance and Ibadah. Qadr is another meaning of destiny and order. Because on this night the decrees of the next year are handed over to the angels assigned to their respective duties. In it, the angels of each person’s age, death, sustenance, rain etc. are written down. Even who will perform Hajj this year is written down.
In Tafsir the author of Qurtubi mentioned a hadith about this, Abbas (RA) said, Israfil, Mikail, Malakul Maut and Jibraeel (A.S.) were given these tasks.
It is explained in Tafsir Mazhari that Allah Ta’ala completes the judgments of matters related to the fate of the whole year in Sabebrat and these judgments are handed over by their respective angels in Sabekdar.
Virtues of Lailatul Qadr
On the authority of Abu Huraira (RA), Rasulullah (SAW) said, ‘Whoever prays on the night of Qadr with the intention of faith and reward, all his past sins are forgiven.’ (Sahih Bukhari, Muslim)
In another narration, all future sins are also forgiven. Narrated by Ubadah, Rasulullah (SAW) said, ‘Whoever prays in search of the Night of Qadr and attains it, his past and future sins are forgiven.’ (Nasa’i)

According to another narration, he kept away from his wives. Narrated by Ayesha (R.A.), Rasulullah (S.A.W.) used to work and worship so much during the last decade of Ramadan, which he did not do at other times. He used to designate the last decade of Ramadan for doing some good deeds, which he did not do for the rest of the month. Night waking is one of them. (Muslim)
Narrated by Ayesha (R.A.), Rasulullah (S.A.W.) used to combine prayer and sleep at night until the 20th of Ramadan. But during the last ten days of Ramadan he would make full preparations and stay away from his wives. (Musnad Ahmad)
On the other hand, he did not sleep during the last decade of Ramadan. He was busy in hard and constant worship.
Night of appreciation across time and country
Time is one and the same in the upper world. Everything there is present tense. Allah has no past or future, everything is present. On the other hand, there are three types of tomorrow for the people of the world. Past, present and future. So time and geographical difference is not an obstacle against the original time of the Night of Qadr. The night of Qadr is woven with the thread of the original time. Therefore, when the Night of Qadr reaches the land, Allah Ta’ala distributes the status of Qadr to that land. It indicates geographical differences but does not indicate any difference in original time. Because time is one and indivisible.
For this reason Laylatul Qadr can be reached at different times in different countries due to geographical differences and Muslims can feel free to enjoy its merits and dignity.
Laylatul Qadr, the night of revelation of the Qur’an. The dignity and virtue of this night is more than a thousand months. May Allah grant us the virtues of this night, Ameen.
