POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Mar 24, 2022: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has handed over medals to nine prominent individuals and two organizations of the country who have been nominated for ‘Swadhinata Puraskar-2022’. He handed over the award among the nominees at a function on Thursday (March 24).
In recognition of their glorious and meritorious contribution at the national level, the heroic freedom fighter Ilyas Ahmed Chowdhury, Martyr Colonel Khandaker Nazmul Huda (Bir Bikram), Abdul Jalil, Siraj Uddin Ahmed, the late Mohammad Sahiuddin Biswas received the medal in the category of Independence and Liberation War this year.
Professor of Medicine. Kanak Kanti Barua and Professor. Md. Kamrul Islam and the late architect Syed Mainul Hossain in architecture received the award.
This time the Bangladesh Wheat and Maize Research Institute and the Department of Power have received the Independence Award as an institution.
The Independence Award is the highest civilian award in the country. The government has been giving this award every year since 1986 on the occasion of Independence Day on March 26. The nominee was awarded Rs. 5 lakh, fifty gram gold medal of 18 carat value, a replica of the medal and a certificate.
