The Sundarbans is being opened for tourists from September 1. After a long five months, tourists will be able to visit forest tourist spots including Katka, Kachikhali and Karamjal. Fishermen will also be given a permit to extract forest resources including fishing from 7 days.
Muhammad Belayet Hossain, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the Eastern Sundarbans Division, told Ittefaq that tourists had been barred from entering the Sundarbans since last April due to the Corona situation. According to the decision of the forest department, tourists will be allowed to enter the Sundarbans from September 1. Tourists flock to the Sundarbans as the ban is lifted. You can go to different places including Kachikhali, Dubla, Hiranpoint, Karamjal, Harbaria. Besides, fishermen will be able to enter the forest for fishing from September 1.
M Nazmul Azam David, president of the Tour Operators Association of Sundarbans Khulna, said there are more than 100 tour operators in Khulna. Of these, 63 are registered. About one and a half thousand officials and employees are involved in tourism. Tourists have suffered huge losses due to the ban on entry to the Sundarbans.
