POBNEWS24, Dhaka Mar 31, 2024 : The Bhanga-Kashiani-Narail of the Bhanga-Kashiani-Narail broad gauge railway from Bhanga to Jessore under the implementation of the Bangladesh and China-funded contractor-China Railway Group (CREC) project trial has started on (March 31) today.

Distance from Dhaka to Lohagra railway station is 123 km and distance from Narail is 138 km. The length of this section from Bhanga to Jessore is 86 km. The project is due to expire in June 2024. The estimated cost of the entire project at the time of approval in 2019 was Tk 34 thousand 988 crore. Currently, the cost of this project stands at 39 thousand 246 crores. According to railway ministry source told this correspondent here in Dhaka today.

This route has railway junctions at Padma Bila in Jessore and Singia. Apart from this, there are railway stations at Nagarkanda-Muksudpur-Maheshpur-Lohagra-Narail and Jamdia and Rupdia in Jessore. According to the Ministry of Railways, if this railway line is opened, the communication between India and Bangladesh will be very easy and it will save about 4 hours of time.

Sources say that the railway construction work of Bhanga-Lohagra-Narail-Jesore section is also nearing completion.

The first trial train started its journey from Bhanga Junction in Faridpur to Rupdia in Jessore at 8.41 am on Saturday.

It is to be noted that in the warning notification on behalf of the Construction Supervision and Consultant (CSC) Department of the Army regarding the running of experimental trains on this route, the experimental train will run at a speed of 120 km per hour from Bhanga railway station to Rupdia railway station on March 30 and 31. The warning notice for public movement on the railway line has already been informed to the district administration and police administration of the concerned area.

Padma Bridge Rail Link Project Additional Chief Engineer Abu Yusuf Md. Shamim said, the construction work of Bhanga-Lohagra-Narail-Jesore section is nearing completion. As part of the work, the construction condition is being checked by running trains at different speeds from Bhanga to Jessore these two days. Trains are expected to run on this route by next June.
