POBNEWS24, Desk report Dhaka Feb 3, 2024 : Brown University of USA has expressed its deep interest in taking joint initiatives with Bangladesh’s health education and biomedical research.
A delegation of the university, led by Dean of Alpert Medical School of Brown University Dr. Mukesh Jain, disclosed this in a meeting with Prime Minister’s Education and Cultural Affairs Advisor Dr. Kamal Abdul Nasser Chowdhury at the university at Rhode Island, USA on Friday.
Dr. Kamal Chowdhury informed the delegation about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s special initiatives and activities in health education and biomedical research of Bangladesh.
Held in honor of Kamal Chowdhury, the meeting was attended by Dr. Ruhul Abid, Director of Heart Disease Research, Global Health chief Dr. Adam Levin, Dr. Susan Kuvin, Director of Translation Research Center, and others.
During the discussion, Brown University delegation lauded the initiatives taken by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the overall development of Bangladesh, especially in the health sector and in controlling the Covid situation.
It was informed that the Faculties of the University are working in several districts of Bangladesh with the help of the Health Department of Bangladesh.
The US delegation told that they helped regarding the introduction of modern digital methods for cervical cancer diagnosis, electronic health record methods through community clinics to upazila and district hospital level to exchange medical data of high blood pressure and diabetes patients, and children’s diarrhea medical research.
In the future, the University is interested in organizing a brown-Bangladesh joint seminar at Brown University and Dhaka.
Kamal Chowdhury expressed interest in receiving special assistance from Alpert Medical School for improving the quality of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and Medical College, the development of the service system of hospitals and institutions, and research programme.
