POBNEWS24,Dhaka, Nov 23, 2021 : Mahmudullah’s last over appeared with all the dramas yesterday. As the third T20 match of the series against Pakistan was heading towards a stalemate (Pakistan’s easy win), it suddenly froze. Mahmudullah’s fall of 3 wickets in the last over increased the level of excitement several times.
When Bangladesh is suddenly dreaming of winning a match at a certain rate, the staging of one more drama raises the bar of excitement. The central characters of the play were three Pakistani batsmen Mohammad Nawaz, Mahmudullah and umpire Tanvir Ahmed.
But the big character of that drama is probably Nawaz. When he needed 2 runs in the last ball, he removed himself at the last moment with the stance of Mahmudullah’s ball. It was okay if the incident ended there, but if the debate is not created, how can the drama be jammed! Nawaz became ‘bold’ with the word to remove himself. The whole gallery danced with the joy of Bangladesh’s victory. But Nawaz raised both his hands and said that he did not bat.
Many are saying that Nawaz has shown ‘dishonesty’ by removing himself at the very last moment while standing in the stance. But as far as the cricket law is concerned, it is going in favor of Pakistani batsmen. Some say that after Nawaz was bowled out for his removal, Bangladesh could have appealed to the umpire to end the match if they wished. Wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan started cheering. His attitude was a lot like that.
But Mahmudullah accepted the umpire’s decision and gave the last ball to Nawaz. Taking full advantage of the new delivery, Nawaz brought a breathtaking victory to Pakistan. There is no doubt that Mahmudullah has set an example of player mentality in this place and there is no controversy.
Mahmudullah did the ball from behind the crease. Nawaz removed himself, citing the fact that the ball, which was standing almost parallel to the umpire, was ‘not seen’ or ‘not fully prepared’. Mahmudullah just raised his head with the stance, just then Mahmudullah did the ball. The present intellect of Nawaz has to be praised here. Because, if you do it a few moments late, the umpire may not find any reason to declare the dead ball. Nawaz would have been bold and he would have been guilty of playing bad shots at crucial times.
Section 20.4.2.5 of the Cricket Act is in favor of Nawaz. It says, ‘If the batsman is not ready to bowl and does not try to play after the ball, then the ball will be considered “dead ball”. If the umpire believes that there is enough reason to move like that, then the ball will not be caught as part of the over.
Yesterday various parties were heard. But about whom so many incidents, such dramas, various controversies, what is he saying. Pakistani journalist Saj Sadiq quoted Nawaz on his Twitter page. There is nothing clear about what he is saying. He did not disclose that he was unprepared, saying, “I was just staring at the point. Suddenly I see the bowler bowling. After throwing the ball, when it was coming towards me after taking a drop on the pitch, at that very moment I stood up and stopped him. ‘
The controversy will continue after Nawaz’s statement.
