POBNEWS24, Dhaka Feb 6, 2024 : Regarding the ongoing conflict inside Myanmar, the newly appointed Director General of BGB, Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, said that the situation is under our control so far.
He said, in no way will Rohingyas be allowed to enter Bangladesh.
The DG of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) said these things after paying tribute at the tomb of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Tungipara, Gopalganj, on Tuesday (February 6) afternoon.
Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui said, since taking charge on Monday afternoon, I have been working on the Myanmar issue till now. I will visit the border tomorrow. So far the situation is under our control.
He said, we are patiently trying to deal with the situation by maintaining good international relations. The Prime Minister has also instructed to be patient, we are working accordingly.
The newly appointed BGB Director General said that 264 people from Myanmar’s BGP, army and other forces have arrived till noon today. 264 have been granted asylum; Food has been arranged for them. Among them, 15 people were injured. Eight people were seriously injured, four of them were admitted to Cox’s Bazar and four to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. The injured have been treated by BGB.
The Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of External Affairs are working to bring them back.
BGB DG said about the death of two people due to mortar shells fired from Myanmar on Monday, death is not desirable in any way. We have given protest note The Myanmar DA met me this morning. I am trying to solve this situation immediately.
Regarding the infiltration of Rohingyas, Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui said that 65 Rohingyas were trying to enter Bangladesh by boat this morning. There Teknaf BGB resisted them and pushed back. We will not allow a single Rohingya to enter Bangladesh.
