POBNEWS24 Dhaka Dec 10, 2023 : The deadline for filing appeals against the Returning Officer’s decision to select candidates ended on Saturday (December 9). 561 submissions have been received so far since the appeal application was launched on December 5. On the first day, 42, 141 on the second day, 155 on the third day, 93 on the fourth day and 130 on Saturday filed an appeal. Among these appeals, 32 appeals have been filed seeking cancellation of candidature of valid candidates.
The Election Commission (EC) has started the appeal hearing on the candidature. By 1 pm on Sunday (December 10), 35 candidates had returned their nominations. So far 57 appeals have been disposed of, 35 are allowed, 18 are not allowed and 4 are pending.
Many people chanted slogans and expressed joy at the Election Commission grounds after getting their candidatures back.
The candidate of Chapainawabganj-1 constituency is among the 35 candidates. Nazrul Islam, Yusuf Ali Sumon in Madaripur-2, Chittagong-15 Abdul Motaleb, Jessore-3. Mohidul Islam, Jessore-5 Md. Habibur Rahman, Dhaka-5 Md. Kamrul Hasan, Chittagong-1 Mohammad Gias Uddin, Jessore-5 Sheikh Nuruzzaman, Munshiganj-2 Md. Bachu Sheikh, Jessore-3 Mohit Kumar Nath, Khulna-4 S, M, Morttaza Rashidi Dara, Jessore-6 Hossain Mohammad Islam, Dhaka-12 Khorshed Alam Khushu, Tangail-6 Kazi ATM Anichur Rahman Bulbul, Rangpur-2 Md. Zillur Rahman, Kushtia-1 Mah. Firoz Al Mamun has withdrawn his candidature.
