POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Nov 27, 2022 : Ashuganj Power Station Company Limited’s (APSCL) new power plant has added 400 MW of electricity to the national grid. The Ministry of Electricity, Energy and Mineral Resources informed this information on Saturday night.
According to the ministry sources, commercial production has started in Ashuganj Power Station Company’s new power plant from Saturday. Several more projects will be connected to the national grid in a few days.
At the end of June this year, APSCL started experimentally producing electricity from the newly constructed 400 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant (East). In the initial stage, the power generation is low, but gradually it increases.
At present 1 thousand 293 MW electricity is generated daily from the six running units of APSCL. In order to increase the power generation target of this plant to 6000 MW by 2030, the installation of large units is undertaken instead of small units that use more gas. As part of this, the project named Combined Cycle Power Plant (East) was approved in the National Economic Committee meeting on 22 September 2015.
China National Technical Import and Export Corporation and China National Corporation for Overseas Economic Cooperation Construction got the joint investment of Asian Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank and Bangladesh Government. The cost of project implementation is estimated at 180.325 million US dollars.
