POBNEWS24, Dhaka July 31, 2025 : Police have arrested Bangladeshi model and actress Shanta Pal on charges of living illegally in Kolkata. She was arrested from Jadavpur area on Wednesday night.
Police said that Shanta was caught while doing cab business. During this time, her Indian voter ID and Aadhaar card were seized from her. However, her visa and passport have expired. She has not renewed them since then.
Police also said that Shanta has been renting a flat in Vijaygarh, Jadavpur since 2023. Apart from this, she used to live in different places in Kolkata under different names and identities.
Kolkata police said that Bangladeshi model Shanta collected her Indian Aadhaar card from an address in Burdwan in 2020. She used to rent a flat in Vikramgarh area of Kolkata. Electricity bills come in Shanta’s name every month at another address in South Kolkata.
Shanta won the title of ‘Miss Asia Global Bangladesh’ in a beauty contest in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, Lalbazar police have taken Shanta Pal into custody for questioning. Later, a written complaint was filed against her at Park Street police station. Based on that, the police searched her flat in Vikramgarh. Police said that several Bangladeshi passports were recovered from Shanta during the search.
It is learned that Shanta’s husband is a resident of Andhra Pradesh. An investigation has been started into whether the Aadhaar and ration cards given to her flat are valid or how she got these cards. She was produced in court on Wednesday. The court ordered her to be kept in police custody till August 8.
Apart from modeling and acting, she has worked as a flight attendant. In 2020, Shanta had accused Tollywood director and Srabanti Chatterjee’s ex-husband Rajeev Kumar of sexual harassment.
