When the working class people here could not get food for their stomachs, when their stomachs are empty, they do not have any sense. These lower class people then go out on the streets to rob or do other work. When work is closed anywhere, crime increases there, it is natural. We consider the closure of factories a threat. The workers of those factories that have been closed after August 5 are participating in these activities. Brother, let the police work. The police are in a very weak state now, please. Earlier, one of my policemen used to work with courage, now three policemen are not showing the courage, they are not getting it. The police are still terrified.’
Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Commissioner Nazmul Karim Khan said these words with great courage at a press briefing at the Gazipur Police Commissioner’s office on Saturday regarding the murder of journalist Tuhin.
He said, ‘Do you know how many policemen were beaten to death on August 5? They were killed for their work, I am not defending this. But the police are traumatized. The police are still traumatized. If you want to policing those traumatized policemen like before, it will not be possible for us yet. We are showing that we are working, we have made arrests within 24 hours. Do you appreciate these? Please, I request you to appreciate our work. Help us, we want to work. We could not prevent (prevent), but we were able to detect (identify). I ask for your cooperation for prevention. Today, I will make only one request to you, give the police a chance to work again. The police have been subjected to public anger. The police have been traumatized from here.’
