POBNEWS24, Dhaka Aug 7, 2025 :  22 Shrawan, World Poet Rabindranath Tagore’s death anniversary. He was not just a poet, he was a visionary, he was the creator of the nation’s consciousness. When Bengalis were confused about their identity under the shadow of colonial rule, the light of nationhood was awakened by Rabindranath’s pen.
This Bengali, who received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913, was not only a writer, but also an artisan of history. Through the composition “Amar Sonar Bangla Ami Tomay Bhal Basi”, he brought together the soil, people and thoughts and awakened consciousness. Which is the national anthem of Bangladesh.
This is not just a national anthem, it is an oath of fire. Just as this song paints a portrait of a mother, there is a silent protest against colonialism and arbitrariness.
Now, when there is an attempt to distort history in the name of politics, it is important to look back at Rabindranath because he taught us how to awaken a nation through language, culture, thought and courage.
Bangla Academy has organized a seminar and cultural program on the occasion of the 84th death anniversary of world poet Rabindranath Tagore. The program was organized on Thursday afternoon at the poet Shamsur Rahman Seminar Room.
Bangla Academy Secretary Dr. Md. Selim Reza delivered the welcome speech. Researcher and critic Professor Dr. Begum Akhter Kamal presented an article titled Rabindranath’s environmental consciousness in the light of the article ‘New Year’. Poet and writer Dr. Mahbub Hasan and Professor Dr. Rahman Habib, Department of Bengali at the Islamic University, participated in the discussion. Bangla Academy Director General Professor Mohammad Azam presided over the meeting.
Dr. Md. Selim Reza said, Rabindranath Tagore is involved in our literary and cultural world with unique artistic talent. His human-oriented liberal thinking is still relevant for us today.
Professor Dr. Begum Akhtar Kamal said, Rabindranath has highlighted many important issues in his article ‘Nabbarsh’ which transcends time and creates a sense of post-darkness relevance. He has expressed his environmental concerns here. Seeing the environmentally destructive nature of large-scale industry, he showed interest in small and cottage industries. The environmentally sensitive characteristics of domestic industry attracted him. Apart from this, he spoke against war, violence and bloodshed which are enemies of man, enemies of the earth. Rabindranath also gave importance to the pulse of youth from human life which keeps the earth alive and green.
She said, in the light of Rabindranath’s environmental thinking, we can still make our society and country’s environment pure, safe and habitable for people.
Professor Mohammad Azam said, discussions and discussions on Rabindranath are ongoing. In today’s article, importance was given to Rabindranath’s environmental context. We must remember that Rabindranath is not a specificist on any subject but an all-rounder. As a result, when the topic of environment comes up, it does not just come down to plants or climate, but philosophically it encompasses a larger issue. To properly understand the environment in Rabindra’s thoughts, we must go to his creative works such as poetry, songs, and fiction, starting from his related articles.
Recitation artists Amirul Mominin Manik and Sayera Habib performed recitations at the cultural program. Rabindra Sangeet was performed by artist Fahim Hossain Chowdhury and artist Shimu Dey. The program was moderated by Bangla Academy Deputy Director Kazi Rumana Ahmed Soma.

I am trying to fulfill the administrative responsibility for the construction of the permanent campus of this university and its infrastructure.
Director of the Rabindra Research Institute in Naogaon Patisar, M. Matiur Rahman Mamun told this reporter that world poet Rabindranath Tagore, national and foreign tourists come to Naogaon Patisar, Bangladesh, every day. Considering their views, it is important to preserve the remaining mud houses. The mud houses of the hostel were demolished long ago, and only one house bears witness to the times, and that too is on the verge of extinction. The tin roof has blown away in the wind, and rainwater is falling on the house.
