POBNEWS24, Dhaka Jan 8, 2026 : A fraud ring is extorting money in Bangladesh by luring people to get loans through fake Facebook IDs using the name and logo of the World Bank. The international organization has urged the general public to be wary of such fraud. The World Bank has clarified that it does not directly lend to any person and does not want to know anyone’s personal financial information. This information was given in a press release of the World Bank sent to the media on Thursday (January 8).
The World Bank said that there have been reports of fraudulent activities using the organization’s name and logo in Bangladesh recently. A ring is defrauding the general public in the name of providing loans from the World Bank in exchange for a fee. The release stated that the World Bank does not directly lend to any person and does not want to know anyone’s personal financial information.
The organization also said that the fraudsters have created Facebook pages and fake IDs to extort money using the name of the World Bank and mobile banking services. Apart from this, they are using various other techniques. The organization also confirmed that the World Bank has no involvement with any such project.
If any person encounters such fraudulent activities, they are requested to immediately contact the local authorities.
