POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Oct 21, 2026 : During the Durga Puja holiday, numerous tourists have rushed to the Cox’s Bazar beach in joy and excitement. Some are enjoying the beauty of the sea with their families, some with friends. But a shadow of grief has descended on that joyful atmosphere. Three tourists have died after being swept away by the waves and currents of the sea while bathing at Cox’s Bazar’s Himchhari beach. Two more are missing in this incident. One person was rescued alive with the help of locals and sent to the hospital.
The tragic incident took place at around 5 pm on Wednesday at the beach adjacent to the museum of the Marina Resort in Himchhari. Ramu Upazila Executive Officer Md. Zillur Rahman confirmed the incident.
According to initial information, a group of tourists went to the beach to bathe when they were swept away by the waves and strong currents of the sea. At that time, local people were able to rescue one person alive. Later, the bodies of three people were recovered from the scene. A search is underway to rescue the other two missing.
After the news of the accident spread, an atmosphere of mourning was created in the beach area. Such a tragic outcome has created new concerns about the safety of tourists visiting during the festive holidays.
Questions about safety
With the increase in the number of tourists on the beach of Cox’s Bazar, ensuring safety while bathing in the sea has also become important. Carelessness about the waves, water depth and sudden currents of the sea can cause fatal accidents in an instant.
The search is continuing to find the two missing people. However, the identities of the deceased and missing tourists and the detailed circumstances of the accident will be known once more information is available.
