POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Oct 19, 2026 : State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraq Hossain has officially announced his resignation from the cabinet after just 8 months in the BNP government. He went to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and submitted his resignation. He is the first minister to resign voluntarily during the BNP government.
He announced his resignation at a press conference at the National Press Club on Monday afternoon.
Earlier, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman ordered State Minister Ishraq, who had sparked controversy by taking up arms in an anti-drug campaign, to resign from the cabinet.
The Prime Minister summoned Ishraq after the cabinet meeting at the Secretariat on Sunday. Tarique Rahman ordered Ishraq to resign there.
Earlier, Ishraq said, “Today’s situation is due to conducting a campaign against drugs. Where I have to resign from the cabinet against the party’s wishes. The party did not want me, I took this decision on my own. From now on, I will be more aggressive in the field and declare war on drugs. He said, “Drugs have destroyed the youth of Bangladesh. My campaign to prevent the spread of the terrible clutches of drugs will continue.”
