Professor Yunus returns to his former workplace, the Grameen Center, in Dhaka’s Mirpur

POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Feb 22, 2026 : After serving as the head of the interim government for one and a half years, Professor Muhammad Yunus returned to his former workplace.
When he arrived at the Yunus Center located in the Telecom Bhaban in Mirpur on Sunday morning, he was warmly welcomed by his long-time colleagues.
After reaching the office this morning, he exchanged greetings with his colleagues and inquired about the ongoing activities of the organization. Later, he met with the managing directors and advisors of the Grameen Sanghasthas in a meeting. The meeting discussed the progress of various projects, future plans and social business initiatives, sources said.
The economist, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006, has led the country’s interim government for the past one and a half years. After completing his duties, he is once again becoming active in his long-standing institutional activities.
The interim government of Bangladesh is a temporary government formed after the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a result of the non-cooperation movement in the wake of the 2024 quota reform movement. This arrangement was confirmed on 5 August 2024 by the President of Bangladesh, some coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, and the army chief. And on 8 August, an interim government was formed with Muhammad Yunus as the chief advisor to the interim government.
The term of the Yunus government ended with the formation of a government on 17 February through a free and fair election on 12 February 2026.
