POBNEWS24, Dhaka May 15:, 2026: An attack took place on the shrine of Hazrat Shah Ali (RA) in Dhaka’s Mirpur, the capital of Bangladesh. On Thursday night, some people armed with sticks attacked the people inside the shrine. The Communist Party says that the shrine is a holy place and mob violence was committed there. However, the police say that there was no attack on the shrine. An anti-drug operation was conducted. This operation was carried out by local Jamaat leaders and activists.
Meanwhile, a video of the attack on the shrine has been circulated on social media. It shows some people beating the people inside the shrine with sticks and forcing them out.
Locals say that a group of about 70-80 people suddenly entered the shrine at night. They had sticks and pipes in their hands. The group beat everyone including the murids and ziartaris as soon as they entered the shrine. After that, they were thrown out of the shrine.
Shahali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jahangir Alam said that there was no attack on the shrine. Last night, some outsiders, men and women, were consuming drugs near the rouza. Locals saw them and chased them out. In addition, an anti-drug drive was conducted around the shrine.
Emdad Hossain, Assistant Commissioner of DMP’s Darussalam Zone, said that the leaders of the local Jamaat-e-Shibir, which prohibits the sale and consumption of drugs, conducted an anti-drug drive in the shrine premises. No attack occurred. He said that an anti-drug drive was conducted last week under the leadership of local BNP leader Miraj.
A video circulating on social media shows the devotees and visitors at the shrine being beaten with sticks. When asked about this, he said that action will be taken according to the law if anyone complains.
When asked, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer told this correspondent that the administration conducted an anti-drug drive. In different places, the general public may have come out against it socially. I have heard that some people have conducted an anti-drug campaign at Shah Ali Shrine in Mirpur. I do not know whether there was any instruction from Jamaat in this.
Meanwhile, the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) has strongly condemned and protested the mob attack organized at Shah Ali Shrine in Mirpur. At the same time, the party has demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in the incident.
CPB President Kazi Sajjad Zahir Chandan and General Secretary Abdullah Kafi Ratan made this protest in a statement on Friday.
In the statement, the leaders said that an elected government is currently in power. But mobs and planned attacks have not stopped in the country yet.
These prove that the rule of law is absent in the country. Taking advantage of this, voices of dissent are being suppressed in the country.
During the interim period, mob attacks have occurred one after another at shrines. They are trying to establish a radical right-wing ideology.
The leaders said that violent attacks are taking place at various shrines. Those who are committing such evil acts including killing one after another, destroying shrines, temples, setting fire to Baul akhras, and physically torturing Bauls are not being brought under the law. As a result, there is no justice for these incidents, but many times the victims are forced to suffer imprisonment and oppression. The leaders immediately watched the CCTV footage and video of the attackers at Shah Ali Shrine in Mirpur and demanded that the mob-creating groups, instigators, and all the responsible individuals involved in the attack be brought under the law and brought to justice quickly. At the same time, they demanded that the security of all shrines, Darbars, and other risky religious and spiritual centers be strengthened.
