POBNEWS24, Dhaka, May 25, 2026 : The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections are going to be held on June 7. However, the fate of several posts has been finalized before the votes are counted in the ballot boxes. On the last day of withdrawal of candidatures, 3 candidates withdrew their nomination papers on Monday afternoon. In this, 8 directors were elected unopposed without any contest.
After the deadline expired at noon, the BCB Election Commission released the list of final candidates. According to commission sources, voting will now be held in only two categories from Category-1 (Division and District). And the main election fight and excitement will be in Category-2 or Club category, where 16 heavyweight candidates will fight in the voting field against 12 director posts. The current head of the BCB Ad Hoc Committee and former captain Tamim Iqbal is also contesting the election from this club category.
On the day of withdrawal of nomination papers, Feni District Sports Association Councilor Shariful Islam (Apu) withdrew from the Chittagong Division of Category-1. As a result of his withdrawal, former chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu and Laxmipur District Sports Association Moin Uddin Chowdhury were elected directors unopposed from the Chittagong Division.
Apart from this, the other directors elected unopposed from this category are – Said Bin Zaman and SM Abdullah Al Fuad from Dhaka Division, Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury from Sylhet Division, Mir Shakrul Alam Simanto from Rajshahi Division and Mirza Faisal Amin from Rangpur Division.
On the other hand, from Category-3 (Public University, Former Captain and Organization), Chittagong University Councilor and experienced organizer Sirajuddin Md. Alamgir was elected unopposed in a single nomination as the only candidate. This organizer, who became the BCB director for the first time in 2005, also served as a director on the first-term board of directors of Nazmul Hasan Papon.
Now, voting will be held only in Khulna and Barisal divisions. Three candidates will fight for the two director posts in Khulna division – Md. Shafiqul Alam, Shantanu Islam and Md. Abdus Salam. On the other hand, Md. Mizanur Rahman and Md. Muntasir Alam Chowdhury will compete head-to-head for the only post in Barisal division.
In this group of category-2, i.e. the traditional Dhaka Premier League club councilors, there are 16 candidates in the field against 12 posts. The finalists in this category are: Fahim Sinha (Abahani Limited), Masuduzzaman (Mohammedan Sporting Club), Asif Rabbani (Shinepukur Cricket Club), Faizur Rahman (Uttara Cricket Club), Yasir Mohammad Faisal Ashiq (Bashundhara Riders), Tamim Iqbal Khan (Old DOHS Sports Club), Mohammad Amjad Hossain (Tri State Cricketers), Mirza Yasir Abbas (Azad Sporting Club), Israfil Khasru (Exium Cricketers), Md. Rafiqul Islam Babu (Indira Road Krira Chakra), Professor Dr. Sarkar Mahbub Ahmed Shamim (Dhaka Wanderers Club), Shanian Tanim Navin (Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club), Syed Ibrahim Ahmed (Fair Fighters Sporting Club), Syed Borhanul Hossain (Tejgaon Cricket Academy), Shakib Ahmed Salam (Purbachal Sporting Club) and Major (Retd.) Imroz Ahmed (Kathalbagan Green Crescent Club).
