POBNEWS24 Dhaka, July 29, 2026 : Delhi is eagerly awaiting the possible visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to India, said Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi.
He told reporters after a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday afternoon.
Dinesh Trivedi said that fruitful discussions were held on various bilateral issues between Bangladesh and India in the meeting. Views were exchanged on various areas of mutual cooperation including culture and sports, which he expressed hope will play a role in further strengthening the relations between the two countries.
Regarding Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s possible visit to India, the Indian High Commissioner said that Delhi is eagerly awaiting the visit.
Responding to a question about the Teesta Agreement, he said that there is no problem that cannot be solved. He also emphasized on further strengthening the communication and mutual relations between the people of the two countries.
Dinesh Trivedi further said that the meeting was very fruitful. India wants to further advance relations with Bangladesh in the interest of the people of the two countries. He said that Bangladesh and India not only share a border, but also have deep ties of history, tradition and culture between the two countries.
It is worth noting that the newly appointed High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, arrived in Dhaka on June 5, 2026 and began the formalities of assuming office. Then, on June 25, he presented his letter of credence to President Mohammad Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban. At that time, he was given a guard of honor by the President’s Guard Regiment. Later, various issues of mutual interest of the two countries were discussed in a courtesy call with the President.
Dinesh Trivedi, who has a long political life, has strengthened diplomatic activities in Bangladesh since assuming office. Initiatives to advance bilateral relations through a series of meetings with government officials, policymakers, diplomats, businessmen and civil society representatives at various levels are being observed.
According to diplomatic analysts, the new High Commissioner is playing an active role in making the existing relations between Dhaka and New Delhi more effective and fruitful. He is particularly focusing on issues such as trade, connectivity, energy, border management, security cooperation and increasing people-to-people contacts, according to the observations of the concerned quarters.
According to analysts, Dinesh Trivedi, due to his political experience as well as diplomatic communication skills, is continuing his efforts to further strengthen the existing atmosphere of trust between the two countries. However, the long-term impact of his initiatives will depend on the mutual political goodwill of Bangladesh and India and the implementation of bilateral decisions.
The relations between Bangladesh and India are currently extensive in various fields including economy, trade, communication, energy, security and regional cooperation. Those concerned believe that the role of the new Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka may become important in the coming days to further advance this relationship.
