By Mir Afroz Zaman, POBNEWS24, Dhaka July 28, 2026 : Russia has reiterated its commitment to strengthen Bangladesh’s food security and expand cooperation in expanding bilateral trade. The country has expressed interest in importing essential food products including urea fertilizer from Russia at low prices. A delegation led by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation (Charges-de-Charges) to Bangladesh Vyacheslav Senturin paid a courtesy call on Commerce, Industry, Textiles and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir at the Minister’s Office in the Ministry of Commerce at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday (July 28). Industries Ministry Secretary Abdun Naser Khan and concerned officials were present at the meeting.
The meeting discussed the long-standing friendly relations and growing economic partnership between the two countries. Special importance was given to food security, agricultural cooperation, fertilizer supply and expansion of government-to-government trade. Khandaker Abdul Muktadir appreciated Russia’s cooperation in regular supply of wheat and Muriate of Potash (MOP) fertilizer to ensure Bangladesh’s food security. He said that Russia is a trusted friend of Bangladesh. He also expressed hope that trade and economic cooperation between the two countries will further expand in the coming days.
The Russian delegation expressed its interest in supplying about 280,000 metric tons of urea fertilizer on a government-to-government basis to the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) through JSC FEC Prodintorg. The delegation said that Russia has offered to supply fertilizer at a price of US$ 10 per metric ton lower than the countries from which Bangladesh currently imports urea fertilizer. If this cooperation is implemented, on the one hand, reliable fertilizer supply will be ensured, and on the other hand, it is expected to reduce import costs.
The meeting also discussed enhancing cooperation in the supply of essential commodities under the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) and Russia’s JSC FEC Prodintorg.

Russia expressed interest in supplying various essential food commodities including sunflower oil, yellow peas, chickpeas, red lentils, green lentils to Bangladesh. They assured to continue cooperation to maintain food security and market stability in Bangladesh.

The Minister welcomed Russia’s interest in expanding trade and said that trade, investment and economic cooperation between the two countries will be further increased on the basis of mutual interests and benefits. In the meeting, both sides agreed to continue regular communication to expand bilateral trade, increase investment and further strengthen economic partnership.
