POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Feb 16,2022: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep grief over the death of famous musician and composer Bappi Lahiri.
In a condolence message today, the Prime Minister wished him peace of mind and extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.
Bappi Lahiri popularized dance music in India in the eighties and nineties.
After the legendary Lata Mangeshkar and Sandhya Mukherjee, Bappi Lahiri left. He died at a private hospital in Mumbai at midnight on Tuesday. He was 69 years old.
Deepak Namjoshi, director of Criticare Hospital in Mumbai, told PTI that Bappi Lahiri had been in the hospital for a month. He returned home after being released from the hospital last Monday. A doctor was called home on Tuesday by his family when his condition deteriorated. Bappi Lahiri died of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) shortly before midnight yesterday.
Bappi Lahiri was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai after being diagnosed with coronavirus in April last year. Within a few days, however, he recovered.
Bappi Lahiri gained popularity in the late eighties by singing in several Bollywood films like ‘Chalte Chalte’, ‘Disco Dancer’ and ‘Sharabi’. Since then he has sung in numerous Hindi and Bengali movies. His last song in Bollywood was ‘Vankas’ from the movie ‘Baghi-3’ in 2020.
