POBNEWS24, Dhaka July 20, 2022 : In June, the prices of daily necessities rose uncontrollably. Inflation rate of food products increased to 8.37 percent at the end of June, which was 8.30 percent in May. The headline inflation rate also increased in June compared to May. The headline inflation rate rose to 7.56 percent this month, from 7.42 percent in the previous month.
In the press conference after the meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council yesterday, Planning Minister MA Mannan said that in the last few days the prices of some products – rice, dal, oil, onion – have started decreasing. At the end of July, the prices of daily commodities will decrease further. We hope that the rate of inflation in food products will decrease in the coming days.
Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) Consumer Price Index (CPI) update for May shows that inflation in the non-food sector increased to 6.33 percent from 6.08 percent in the previous month (April).
A review of the BBS inflation rate showed that non-food and food inflation rates increased in June. Inflation rates in cosmetics, footwear, apparel, housing, furniture, household goods, healthcare, transport, educational materials and miscellaneous services sectors have increased.
According to the BBS, prices of goods and other services rose more in rural areas than in cities in June. Rural headline inflation rose to 8.9 percent in June, while urban inflation was 6.62 percent. As a result, people in the villages are suffering more than in the cities due to the increase in the prices of daily commodities.
