POBNEWS24, Dhaka Jan 8, 2025 : Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan has taken charge of looking after the family of 14-year-old Felani, who was shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF). Her body was hanging on a barbed wire fence for at least five hours at the Anantapur border in Kurigram’s Phulbari upazila. When that picture was published in local and foreign media, a storm of criticism erupted around the world.

On January 7, 2011, 14-year-old Felani was shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Anantapur border in Kurigram’s Phulbari upazila. Her body was hanging on a barbed wire fence for at least five hours.
The picture of Felani’s hanging body caused a stir around the world.
The brutality of the Indian Border Security Force spread all over the world. Felani became a symbol of protest. As the hanging picture of Felani Khatun’s body was broadcast in the international media, the Narendra Modi government promised to bring the BSF members who killed her to justice.
