POBNEWS24, Desk Report, Aug 7, 2022 : India and America will conduct joint military exercises in the Himalayas. The US news channel CNN has reported quoting an Indian army officer.
The exercise will be held less than 100 km from India’s disputed border with China.
The exercise will be held in the middle of October near the city of Auli in the state of Uttarakhand, India. The city is located on the southern slopes of the Himalayas and is where New Delhi and Washington will conduct war drills at an altitude of 10,000 feet above sea level.
This joint exercise was announced in advance when America’s tension with China was at its peak over Taiwan. Apart from this, there have been several clashes between Indian and Chinese troops along the disputed border.
India and China are known as rival countries in this region.
The location of Auli town is about 100 km from the disputed border line between India and China. Both India and China claim each other’s territory across the border.
However, since the Indo-China war of 1962, this line has been used as the border between the two countries.
In 2020, when India was going to build a road in the territory claimed by China, there was a bloody clash between the border guards of the two countries. 20 Indian and four Chinese soldiers were killed in this.
