POBNEWS24, Dhaka July 20, 2026 : Finally, ending much speculation, senior Bangladeshi journalist Md. Saidur Rahman has been appointed as Minister (Press) in the Press Wing of the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, India.
A notification was issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Monday, appointing him on a contractual basis for one year.
He has been appointed on the condition that he renounces any other profession, business or employment relationship with any government, semi-government, private, institution or organization. The notification stated that his appointment will be effective from the date of joining.
It also said that other terms of appointment will be determined through a contract.
Saidur Rahman has been working for the Ittefa daily for a long time. He served as the president of the Reporters Forum for Elections and Democracy (RFED) in the 2023-2024 session.
Saidur, a student of the 2003-04 batch of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Dhaka University. Former General Secretary of the DU Journalists’ Association. Saidur, son of Kolaroa of Satkhira, is currently serving as the Unit Chief of the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) of Dainik Ittefaq. He is a member of the National Press Club. It is worth noting that the former president of the Press Club of India had requested another person who was working in Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha during the Awami League to be posted to this position. Tarique Zia’s government has received a lot of praise in the journalist community for putting an end to that and posting Saidur Rahman to Delhi.
