POBNEWS24, Dhaka Sept 9, 2025 : Biman Bangladesh Airlines returned to Dhaka with 114 passengers after Nepal Airport authorities suspended flight operations. Nepal Airport authorities have suspended all types of flights until midnight on Tuesday (September 9). As a result, air traffic on both international and domestic routes has come to a standstill.
In this situation, a Biman Kathmandu-bound flight returned near Tribhuvan Airport on Tuesday. On the other hand, another Biman flight was supposed to return members of the Bangladesh national football team from Kathmandu. They are also stranded there.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ Public Relations Department General Manager ABM Rawshan Kabir said that the BG 371 flight from Dhaka to Kathmandu left on time. But as all flights at the airport were canceled, the plane had to return with 114 passengers even after going close. Currently, passengers waiting to return home from Kathmandu are staying at the airport.
The flight for the return of the Bangladesh national football team was a Biman flight. The BFF said that Jamal Bhuiyan’s team was supposed to return home on Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ BG 372 flight at 3 pm today. But they are stuck in the hotel as all flights have been canceled.

National Party’s Amer Khan said, “The situation in Kathmandu is bad. We are in the hotel. There has been no discussion yet about returning.” The airline authorities are preparing to put both passengers in a hotel as the flight was canceled.

Kathmandu Post reported that international flights have been suspended from 12:45 pm today. The airport authorities issued a warning after smoke was seen near the capital’s Koteshwar area. Although the airport’s general manager Hans Raj Pandey said, “The airport has not been closed, we will not close it.” However, activities have been limited in compliance with all warnings.

Incidentally, at least 19 people were killed in police firing during a protest by youths on Monday (September 8) against government corruption and a ban on social media. Many more were injured. Since then, a curfew has been imposed in the capital Kathmandu and major cities, which has also affected flight operations.
