POBNEWS24 Bagerhat Mar 12, 2026 : Thirteen people were killed in a head-on collision between a navy vehicle and a microbus in the Gunai Bridge area of the Khulna-Mongla highway in Bagerhat, the southernmost district of Bangladesh.
The incident took place in the Rampal area on Thursday afternoon. There is a fear of increasing casualties.
Hospital sources said that the bodies of 9 of the deceased have been brought to the Khulna Medical College Hospital. The bodies of the remaining 4 have been taken to the Rampal Health Complex.
It is learnt that four people died on the spot in a head-on collision between a Bangladesh Navy bus and a passenger microbus. Several others were seriously injured during the incident.
Locals said that the microbus overturned when the two vehicles collided while moving at high speed, causing casualties.
Upon receiving the information, police and fire service members quickly reached the spot and started a rescue operation. The injured were rescued and sent to Rampal Upazila Health Complex and Khulna Medical College Hospital.
Mehenaz Mosharraf, a doctor on duty at the emergency department of Khulna Medical College Hospital, said that eight bodies had been received at the hospital by 6 pm. Of these, three were children, three women and two men. Another person was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition. He is undergoing treatment.
Police said that the death toll is expected to rise further.
