POBNEWS24 Dhaka Sept 20, 2025 : Canada has issued a high alert for its citizens traveling to Bangladesh. The warning was issued in a notice published in the ‘Travel’ section of the country’s government website on Friday.
The notice has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for travel to Bangladesh. It is said that Canadian citizens should be especially careful when traveling to Bangladesh. In addition, a red alert has been issued for the three hill districts of the country, where it has been advised not to travel.
The Canadian government has said that the security situation in Bangladesh may deteriorate at any moment due to possible protests, clashes and nationwide strikes and blockades. Even if there is no advance warning, Canada has strictly instructed its citizens to avoid traveling to the three hill districts in particular. The notice said that there is a risk of politically motivated violence, kidnapping and clashes between small ethnic groups in these areas. Therefore, Canadian citizens have been urged not to travel to the hill areas for safety reasons.
On the other hand, in view of security concerns and deteriorating geopolitical relations, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced a temporary ban on tourist and work visas for nine countries, including Bangladesh. The directive will come into effect from January 2026.
Not only tourist and work visas, but also citizens wishing to enter for business purposes will be covered by this ban.
The country’s immigration authorities said that the countries on the list of bans are Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, Lebanon, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Sudan and Uganda.
According to a source, a delegation of Hefazat-e-Islam led by Mamunul Haque, who is the Secretary General of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis and Joint Secretary General of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, is currently on a visit to Afghanistan. They arrived in the country’s capital Kabul from Saudi Arabia on Wednesday. According to sources, apart from Mamunul Haque, the delegation includes Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Abdul Hamid (Pir of Madhupur), Maulana Abdul Awal, Maulana Abdul Haque, Maulana Habibullah Mahmud Qasemi, Maulana Monir Hossain Qasemi and Maulana Mahbubur Rahman. During the visit, it is reported that they met and exchanged views with the Chief Justice of the Emirate of Islamia (Taliban) government, some ministers, top Ulema-e-Karam and senior officials. On the other hand, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Nasimul Ghani left for Pakistan on a 9-day official visit on Thursday. He arrived at Islamabad International Airport on a Thai Airways flight. There, Special Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Federal Government of Pakistan Daud Muhammad Barech and Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan Md. Iqbal Hossain Khan welcomed him. The agenda of the visit includes discussions on Bangladesh-Pakistan cooperation in counter-narcotics and terrorism, training exchange between the two countries’ police academies, and coordination on the Rohingya issue. The Home Ministry said that a memorandum of understanding is expected to be signed in this regard.
However, according to some sources, the simultaneous visit of the Hefazat-e-Islam delegation to Afghanistan and the visit of the Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry to Pakistan, in addition to the sanctions imposed by Canada and the United Arab Emirates, Bangladeshi political analysts believe that it is necessary to investigate whether these are part of a secret mission by Pakistan’s intelligence agencies.
