POBNEWS24 Dhaka Nov 20, 2025 : Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Bachhowe is arriving in Bangladesh today (Thursday). Her visit is part of discussions with key stakeholders ahead of the February 2026 parliamentary elections.
The Commonwealth Secretary-General will land in Dhaka on Thursday (November 20). She will leave Dhaka on November 24.
During her visit, the Commonwealth Secretary-General is scheduled to meet key figures of the interim government.
These include Principal Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, as well as High Commissioners, political party leaders and other representatives.
The meeting will discuss matters of mutual interest, including deepening ongoing engagement in support of national progress in Bangladesh to realize the aspirations of the people for peace and stability, democracy and good governance, and prosperity.
During the meeting, Shirley Botchway will brief partners on the Commonwealth’s new strategic plan, which places democracy among its three key pillars, and will also hear how appropriate assistance can best support the people of Bangladesh.
