POBNEWS24, Dhaka, May 30, 2022 : Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said the decision to build the much-anticipated Padma Bridge at her own expense has brightened the image of the country in the eyes of the world. The bridge will be opened for traffic on June 25. The Prime Minister was quoted as saying by his press secretary Ihsanul Karim at a press briefing on Monday (May 30).
He said, “This decision to build the Padma Bridge with its own funds has not only brightened the image of the country in the eyes of the world but also boosted the confidence of the nation.”
The Prime Minister said this while addressing a meeting of the Army Selection Board 2022 at the Multipurpose Complex of the Army Headquarters in Dhaka Cantonment.
He added that the World Bank had stopped financing the construction of the Padma Bridge without holding a board meeting after a person made false allegations of corruption in the project. However, the allegations were later proved baseless.
He added, “We have to move forward with confidence in the economic progress we have made (Bangladesh has been recognized as a developing country from a least developed country).
Highlighting the various nation-building and social activities of the army, he said the Bangladesh Army has always contributed to the overall development of the country, including the construction of infrastructure. The Prime Minister directed the army to gain the confidence and trust of the people through their actions.
