POBNEWS24, Dhaka Oct 16, 2025 : Islami Chhatra Shibir–backed student alliance Sampriti Shikkharthi Jote has secured two key positions—Vice President (VP) and General Secretary (GS)—in the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) election.

Meanwhile, the post of Assistant General Secretary (AGS) went to a candidate from the Chhatra Dal–backed panel.

The Election Commission announced the official results early on Thursday (16 October) following the completion of vote counting across 14 halls.

According to the results, Ibrahim Hossain Rony from the Department of History (2017–18 session) was elected VP with 7,983 votes, defeating his nearest rival, Chhatra Dal–backed Sazzad Hossain Hridoy.

Sayed Bin Habib, also from the Department of History (2019–20 session), won the GS post with 8,031 votes, beating Chhatra Dal’s Shafayet Hossain.

In contrast, the AGS position was secured by Ayubur Rahman Tawfiq of the Department of Islamic History and Culture (2021–22 session), representing the Chhatra Dal–supported panel. He won with 7,014 votes, defeating Shibir-backed candidate Sazzat Hossain Munna.

The results mark a significant win for Shibir-backed candidates in two of the three top CUCSU posts.

In a landmark moment for student politics, elections to the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) and the hall unions were held on Wednesday for the first time in 35 years.

A total of 27,518 students were eligible to vote in this historic election — comprising 16,189 male and 11,329 female voters. The polls will determine representatives for 26 CUCSU posts, with 415 candidates vying for positions in what has become one of the most anticipated events in the university’s recent history.
