POBNEWS24, Sep 14, 2021 :What is the final outcome of the Manchester Test? Test postponed or abandoned!
None sure yet. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly said there would be a Test next year but it would be different. It will have nothing to do with this series. However, this time Saurabh has changed his mind and says that they want it to be a part of this series. Meanwhile, the England and Wales Cricket Board, which is facing huge financial losses, is rumored to be approaching the ICC over the results of the Tests. In that case, they will face the BCCI.
India are scheduled to travel to England next year to play a limited-overs series. “The Manchester Test has been canceled,” Saurabh told the Kolkata-based newspaper The Telegraph. The ECB has suffered a lot, it is not easy for them. But now let’s get used to it, then we will discuss and decide. But next year, it will be the only Test, it will not be part of the series.
However, Sourav later told PTI, “We want the series to end. This will be our first series win in England since 2006. The BCCI thinks that Test cricket is the final version, and we will not shorten it for anything.
The BCCI has already offered ECB to play ‘extra’ matches, Sourav confirmed, adding, ‘We are willing to play extra ODIs and T20s, it doesn’t matter. However, if the Test is played, it will be the fifth Test of the series.
ECB chief executive Tom Harrison said: “At the moment, our goal is to renew the test schedule. (If not) Then we will approach the ICC, what will be the result of this series. The last test will be like this, or it will be called something else — I don’t know what it will be. For now, the BCCI has offered us a new schedule for that match. However, it is not yet certain whether it is part of this match or a separate match.
Meanwhile, the English newspaper The Telegraph says that the ECB is very close to going to the ICC with the results of the Manchester Test. According to ICC rules, if a team is unable to form an XI due to a coronavirus, it will be declared ‘abandoned’.
But in the end, if the ICC goes, the ECB will claim that since everyone in the Indian team came in corona negative, the reason for their refusal to play is certainly not coronavirus. In that case, England should be declared the winner of the Manchester Test.
In the end, if the ICC declares the test abandoned because of the coronavirus, the ECB will lose about কোটি 40 million. According to the agreement with the insurance company, the ECB is not subject to compensation in any match postponed due to coronavirus.
The last time a Test result was decided in 2006 was at the ICC table. Inzamam-ul-Haq, the then Pakistan captain, refused to play in the England-Pakistan Test at the Oval after the umpires took action against Pakistan for allegedly tampering with the ball. The ICC declared England victorious in the Tests after a few changes.
