POBNEWS24, Dhaka Jan 12, 2026 : On Monday afternoon, the Jamaat Ameer held a meeting with a three-member delegation led by the Chief Observer of the European Union (EU) Election Observation Mission and Member of the European Parliament Evers Ijabs regarding the upcoming national elections and referendum.
Responding to questions from journalists after the meeting at the Jamaat Ameer’s office in Bashundhara in the capital, Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman said that the agreement on electoral seats for 11 parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami, could be announced on Tuesday.
The agreement on seats could be finalized on the same day. Or the day after tomorrow. The Jamaat Ameer also said that all parties will appear before the media together.
In the meeting, the EU delegation asked Jamaat whether there are equal opportunities for all parties and whether there are any specific challenges and complaints. Jamaat has said that it has complaints, but has told them not to disclose them now. Jamaat wants to inform the Election Commission and the interim government about the complaints and challenges first. If a solution is not found even then, Jamaat will inform the people about these issues.
Shafiqur Rahman said that the EU delegation wanted to know what the relations with various countries of the world, including its neighbors, will be like if Jamaat-e-Islami forms a government. He said that they have been told that Jamaat will maintain friendly relations with all civilized, peace-loving and democratic countries of the world. It has also been told that there will be neighborly relations with its neighbors. Jamaat hopes that neighbors will also behave like neighbors. However, that behavior must be based on mutual respect and equality. Jamaat wants to move Bangladesh forward by maintaining friendship and harmony with the whole world without leaning towards any specific country.
Stating that Jamaat is taking the issue of women’s safety seriously, the party’s Amir said that they believe that mothers and sisters will choose Jamaat this time. Signs of this are already visible. But women participating in Jamaat’s election campaigns are being prevented. There have even been incidents of them removing their hijab. Announcements have been made to drive them away and prevent them. The job of a political party is to show respect to people of all classes, professions, ages, and genders. No one has the right to insult anyone just for political reasons.
Shafiqur Rahman said, it is hoped that the people of Bangladesh will make the right decision in the next election. Jamaat will try to properly carry the burden of the trust entrusted to it. If the people choose someone else, Jamaat will be grateful to the countrymen. If others go to the opposition party, Jamaat expects the same from them. This is essential for stability. As soon as the election is over, no party or political party will be able to interfere in the process of stability. The judiciary will enjoy independence. However, there will also be a place for accountability and responsibility in the judiciary. That will also be ensured, so that a balance can be ensured there.
It is heard that many in the current administration have worked as allies of the Awami League. Is a fair election possible with this administration? In response to media questions, the Jamaat Amir said, “We think they will change. Otherwise, they will be forced to change.” When asked whether the EU will send a delegation to this election, the Jamaat Amir said, this time they will send 200 representatives. They will collect information from all districts and city corporation areas. Earlier, the Jamaat Amir was accompanied by the party’s publicity and media department head Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, educationist Zubair Ahmed, and Jamaat Amir’s foreign affairs advisor Mahmudul Hasan, among others, at the EU delegation meeting.
