India claims Bangladeshis are being given ‘many’ visas

POBNEWS24, Desk report July 17, 2025 : Delhi has claimed that Bangladeshi citizens are now being given a large number of Indian visas. India’s normal visa operations in Bangladesh had virtually stopped since July-August last year (2024). Many Bangladeshi citizens have had to suffer immensely as Indian visas were not available.
In response to a question in Delhi on Thursday (July 17), External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We are giving visas (to Bangladesh). Visas are being given for various reasons, in large numbers.”
At a regular weekly briefing, he also said, “Among the reasons for which visas are being given, there are medical issues or emergencies, student visas, etc.”
However, he could not say the exact number of visas India has given to Bangladeshis in recent months.
Jaiswal said, “I will have to find out.”
In response to another question about the violence that took place in Gopalganj on Wednesday (July 16), he did not give a specific response – instead, he sidestepped the answer.
In response to how India views the Gopalganj incident, he said, “We keep a close eye on any development in our region, we take it into account and do whatever we have to do in view of it.”
