POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Jan 21, 2026 : New Delhi has decided to take back family members of diplomats and other officials working in Indian High Commissions and Assistant High Commissions in Bangladesh. The decision was taken yesterday considering the security situation in Bangladesh, multiple Indian government sources said. The matter was confirmed by the country’s Ministry of External Affairs.
It is learnt that the Indian government took such a step a few weeks before the upcoming parliamentary elections in Bangladesh. It was said that as a ‘precautionary measure considering the security situation’, dependents of Indian officials working in Indian High Commissions and Assistant High Commissions in Bangladesh have been asked to return to India.
It was also confirmed that even though the family members of the diplomats have been taken back, the Indian High Commissions and Assistant High Commissions in Bangladesh will continue to work with ‘full capacity’.
There is an Indian High Commission in Dhaka. Assistant High Commissions are in Khulna, Rajshahi, Chittagong and Sylhet. The country is taking back family members of diplomats and other officials from all missions.
