POBNEWS24, Dhaka, June 3, 2025 : Two daughters living in Bangladesh want to rush to the Indian village on the other side to see their mother’s beloved face for the last time. But the border between the two countries, which cannot be crossed without a passport and visa, stands in the way. The mother has died in India on the other side of the border.
However, in the end, the two daughters did not need a visa or passport to reach their mother’s body. Thanks to the humanitarian initiative of the border guards of the two countries, they got the opportunity to see their mother’s face for the last time at the zero line of the border.
The incident took place on Tuesday at the border of Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga, Bangladesh. This opportunity was given to see the body of Lojina Begum (80) in the Gongra area of Chapra police station in Nadia district, India, opposite the Jagannathpur border post of the upazila. Local residents have appreciated the initiative of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF).
In the afternoon, a press release signed by BGB’s Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB) Director and Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md. Nazmul Hasan said that the area of responsibility of the Gongra BSF camp of 161 BSF Battalion is opposite the main border post (96/8-S) of the Jagannathpur Border Post (BOP) in Damurhudar. Lojina Begum, wife of Indian citizen Fakir Chan, living in Gongra village of Chapra police station in Nadia district, died on Monday midnight due to physical illness. Lojina Begum’s two daughters, Barkati Begum (45) and Kulsum Begum (40), live in Joypur village of Mujibnagar upazila of Meherpur in Bangladesh through marital relations. They were distraught over the news of their mother’s death.
The BGB further said that the two daughters and their close relatives requested BGB Jagannathpur Border Post Commander Naik Subedar Md. Abul Hasan to see the mother, who died in Indian territory, for the last time. In view of such a request, as part of a humanitarian program jointly conducted by BGB and BSF, the body was allowed to be seen in a cordial and peaceful environment from 9:10 am to 9:30 am at the zero line near the main post of the border. A painful atmosphere was created there with the presence of the two daughters of the deceased woman and citizens of both countries and close relatives.
Jagannathpur Border Post Commander Md. Abul Hasan along with the accompanying armed patrol team and 161 BSF Battalion Gongra BSF Camp Commander Sub-Inspector (SI) Pradeep Narayan and the accompanying armed team were present on behalf of BGB during the viewing of the body.
The BGB said that Lojina Begum, an Indian citizen by birth, was living in India with her husband. Out of four sons and four daughters, two daughters, Barkati Begum and Kulsum Begum, are living permanently in Bangladesh by marriage. Lieutenant Colonel Md. Nazmul Hasan, Commander of Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB), said, “As part of the progress of peace, harmony and good relations between the two border guard forces, such humanitarian activities will play a role in improving good relations between the people living on the border of both countries. It will serve as a milestone in maintaining cordial relations in the future. Apart from this, it is expected that inter-state border crimes will decrease in view of the increase in brotherhood on both borders.”
