Khaleda Zia taken to London due to lack of confidence in Bangladesh’s treatment and medical system

POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Dec 4, 2025 : A decision has been made to take BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia to London for advanced treatment due to lack of confidence in Bangladesh’s medical system. She will be taken to London after midnight on Thursday or early Sunday morning.
BNP Standing Committee member and Chairperson’s personal physician Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain gave this information at a press briefing in front of Evercare Hospital in the capital on Thursday afternoon.
Khaleda Zia will be accompanied by 14 people, including doctors and party leaders and activists, on this visit. This information was given in a release signed by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam.
They are daughter-in-law Syeda Shamila Rahman, Dr. Zahid Hossain, Dr. Enamul Haque Chowdhury (Advisor to Chairperson), Dr. Fakhruddin Mohammad Siddiqui, Dr. Shahabuddin Talukder, Dr. Nuruddin Ahmed, Dr. Mohammad Zafar Iqbal, Dr. Mohammad Al Mamun, Hasan Shahriar Iqbal (SSF), Syed Samin Mahfuz (SSF), Abdul Hai Mallick (Acting Chairman’s Assistant), Masuder Rahman (Assistant Private Secretary), Fatema Begum (Housekeeper) and Rupa Sikder (Housekeeper).
Dr. Zahid said that he has identified a hospital in London for her treatment.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital for the past 12 days. Her physical condition is still critical. She is being treated in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Khaleda Zia has been suffering from various complications including arthritis, diabetes, kidney, lung and eye problems for a long time. Khaleda Zia was released after the Awami League government was overthrown in a mass uprising on August 5 last year.
Then, on January 7 of this year, Khaleda Zia went to London for advanced treatment. After staying in London for 117 days for treatment, she returned to the country on May 6.
