POBNEWS24, Dhaka July 28, 2025 : The Bangladesh Women’s Council has expressed deep concern and apprehension over the attack on the house of a teenager, including the house of a local Hindu community, on charges of blasphemy in Gangachara, Rangpur, a northern district of Bangladesh.
In a statement sent to the media on Monday (July 28), the organization said that such incidents are an attempt to destroy communal harmony in the country and are becoming a major obstacle to establishing the rule of law.
The statement said that we have noticed in the media that houses of the Hindu community, including the house of a teenager, were attacked and vandalized on charges of blasphemy. However, the police arrested the teenager instead of arresting the attackers on the spot.
The Women’s Council further stated that such extremist communal behavior is increasing alarmingly in different parts of the country. As examples, they also mentioned the incident of a father and son being publicly humiliated on charges of blasphemy in Lalmonirhat and the incident of the demolition of a temple in Khilkhet in the capital on the demand of extremist groups.
The statement said that such attacks and violence in the name of religion are planned and motivated. The culture of impunity is increasing these incidents.
The organization called for an impartial investigation into the incident and the prompt arrest of the culprits and ensuring exemplary punishment. At the same time, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad strongly demanded that the government ensure the safety and human rights of people of all religions, castes and communities.
