Prime Minister’s congratulations to Sahabuddin Chuppu

POBNEWS24, Dhaka Feb 12, 2023 : Mohammad Sahabuddin Chuppu, a member of the party’s advisory council, has been nominated by Awami League for the post of the country’s 22nd president. He is a former ACC Commissioner and a retired District and Sessions Judge.

A team led by General Secretary Obaidul Quader of ruling party Awami League went to the Chief Election Commissioner’s office with him on Sunday morning. There the nomination form collection and submission process is completed.

Mohammad Sahabuddin Chuppu met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after receiving the nomination of Awami League. At this time, the Prime Minister greeted and congratulated him with flowers.

Due to the absolute majority of Awami League in the National Parliament, whoever will be nominated by this party will be elected unopposed as a single candidate. The opposition party in the parliament is not fielding candidates in this election.

Party President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was officially given the responsibility to finalize the candidate of Awami League for the post of President from the Awami League parliamentary party meeting on February 7.

Only in 1991, after the introduction of parliamentary system of government in the country through the 12th amendment of the constitution, contesting or voting in the presidential election was accepted. At that time there were 140 parliamentarians of the ruling BNP in the parliament. Other MPs were from Awami League, Jatiya Party and seven other parties. That is why it is necessary to take the vote. After that there was no need to vote in the presidential election.
