POBNEWS24, Dhaka Dec 19, 2025 : The whole country has been in a state of anger after the news of the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, the hero of the July Uprising and spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha, spread. Everyone from the mountains to the plains took to the streets demanding justice for Hadi’s murder.
On Thursday night, students protested at Shahbagh and Dhaka University in the capital. The frontline fighters of July raised slogans against the fallen Awami League and the conspiracy of Indian hegemony. They demanded the immediate resignation of the Home Affairs Advisor, taking responsibility for the failure. July Uprising leaders Nahid Islam, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, and Mahfuz Alamrao took to the field in a row with the students. They called for a nationwide protest after Friday prayers on Friday (December 19). Various student organizations and DUCSU leaders also took to the streets to protest the murder. They warned that the fight against hegemony cannot be stopped by killing.
On Thursday, Jatrabari and Shanir Akhara students and public held a blockade program on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway from 10 pm to 3 am in protest of Hadi’s death. This caused severe traffic jams on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, Dhaka-Mawa and Dhaka-Demra roads. Hundreds of patients and passengers suffered greatly.
Protests also took place in Uttara and Mirpur in the capital at night. The roads were closed. At one point, the Prothom Alo office was set on fire. Some time later, the office of the English newspaper The Daily Star was set on fire. When the fire spread, several people were trapped inside. After such a situation continued for some time, at one point, the media workers who were trapped there were rescued with the help of the fire brigade. Arson was also carried out in Dhanmondi 32 and Chhayant.
Not only in the capital, protests spread to different parts of the country at night on the news of Osman Hadi’s death. Protesters surrounded the Indian Assistant High Commission office in Chittagong; former Education Minister Naufel’s house was also set on fire. The Rajshahi Nagar Awami League office was also destroyed. Protest processions were also taken out in Sylhet and Barisal. Protesters set fire to the road in Netrokona and demanded justice. Demands for the arrest of Hadir’s killers have been raised in Jamalpur. Many people also took out protests in Osman Hadir’s home district, Jhalokati. Traffic was stopped by setting fire to the road.
