POBNEWS24, Dhaka Jan 1, 2026 : Security at all land and air ports in Bangladesh has been beefed up ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections. Based on the recommendations of the Bangladesh Election Commission, the land and air port authorities are working together with the Bangladesh Police to beef up security.

Sources said that before and after the national elections, all land ports in the country’s border areas, especially the risky land ports, have been identified and brought under strict surveillance. So that during this time, no political evil group from within and outside the country can enter Bangladesh and create any unwanted incidents, and it is possible to completely prevent illegal human trafficking and illegal arms smuggling through the border areas.
It is worth noting that the Bangladesh Land Ports Authority controls all land ports in Bangladesh. It is an organization under the Ministry of Shipping. However, several special organizations of the Bangladesh Police under the Ministry of Home Affairs work jointly to ensure the security of land ports. Bangladesh has 24 land ports with neighboring countries India and Myanmar. There are 23 land ports with India (of which 5 Indian states are connected) and 1 (Teknaf) with Myanmar. Import-export and passenger traffic is mostly handled through 16 ports of Bangladesh adjacent to India. These are the country’s largest land port Benapole, Bhomra (Satkhira), Burimari (Lalmonirhat), Akhaura (Brahmanbaria), Sonamasjid (Chapainawabganj), Hili (Dinajpur), Banglabandha (Panchagarh), Tamabil (Sylhet), Bibirbazar (Comilla), Sonahat (Kurigram), Nakugaon (Sherpur), Bilonia (Feni), Sheola (Sylhet), Dhanua Kamalpur (Jamalpur) and the Gobarkura-Karaitoli land port of Mymensingh. Teknaf (Cox’s Bazar) is the main port of Bangladesh’s trade with Myanmar. BGB sources also confirmed the security issue to this correspondent.

Meanwhile, it is known that strict security measures have been taken at Hazrat Shahjalal in Dhaka, Shah Amanat in Chittagong and Osmani International Airport in Sylhet. The overall security responsibility of these 3 international airports is mainly handled under the Civil Aviation Authority. The Civil Aviation Authority’s own security department, AVSEC, is responsible for the security of the airport. However, several organizations work jointly to ensure overall security.
It is worth noting that the entire airport area was covered with several layers of security on December 24 and 25, focusing on the return of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman to his homeland. During this time, the Civil Aviation Authority’s own security department AVSEC, the Air Force, the Army, the Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBN), RAB and the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) worked together to ensure security from the main gate of the airport to the runway.
In addition to strengthening the overall security system of the airport after the announcement of the election schedule, restrictions have been imposed on the entry of all types of passengers and visitors other than passengers to avoid security risks, and drone flying has been strictly prohibited in the airport and its surrounding areas. Round-the-clock CCTV surveillance has been increased at the airport and suspicious movements are being monitored from the control room.
Meanwhile, the state-controlled national air transport company Biman Bangladesh Airlines has started using body-worn cameras for staff engaged in baggage handling of every international flight.
