POBNEWS24, Dhaka Sep 20, 2021 :Highlighting the dengue cases in different countries, said the local government minister. Tajul Islam said there were many dengue cases in Vietnam, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines. From them, the dengue situation in Bangladesh is in a much better position. But sadly, many children have died of dengue this time. Many have lost relatives. We don’t want to lose another one. I will use the experience that I have now to take steps in the future.

The minister expressed hope that the dengue outbreak would come down within the next one month. He said that Aedes mosquitoes have been born in the houses and buildings under construction due to the long stay of people on holiday. However, the situation will come to a tolerable level within a month.

He was speaking at the ‘BSRF Dialogue’ organized by the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF) at the media center of the Secretariat on Monday (September 20) at 11am. BSRF President Tapan Biswas presided over the function while General Secretary Masudul Haque conducted the function.

Replying to a question on dengue, the minister said the number of dengue cases has increased this time as compared to the last two years. The main reason for this is the long-running restrictions and Eid holidays.

The minister said, “We have taken a planned initiative to eradicate mosquitoes from 2019.” I worked in 2020 with the experience of that year, so only 1405 people were affected. But in 2021 I saw a lot more infected, more deaths. Climate change is one of the reasons for the increase in dengue outbreaks this time. Even then, people go home to the village during the long-standing restrictions and Eid holidays. That is why mosquitoes have been born in the abandoned places. On the other hand, mosquito larvae were also found there as the workers of the buildings under construction were on leave.

Regarding the foreign tour of the mayor of South City Corporation amid the dengue outbreak, he said he was out of the country due to family problems. But now he is gone. He also informed me about this information by phone. He is doing enough.

Noting the high number of dengue cases in the south, the minister said people were not being made aware. People in the next house are dying of dengue but they are not aware of it. They have to be aware of themselves. We are running mobile courts, imposing fines for killing mosquitoes. He said that its incidence will decrease a lot within this month.

Vice-President Motahar Hossain, Joint-Secretary Mehdi Azad Masum, Organizing Secretary Akhter Hossain, Training and Research Secretary Tauhidul Islam, Executive Members Ismail Hossain Russell, Mainul Hossain Pinnu, Shahjahan Mollah, Hasif Mahmud Shah and Shahadat Hossain Rakib were present.
