POBNEWS24, Dhaka Feb 12, 2026 : Ivers Ijabs, head of the European Union (EU) Election Observation Mission assigned to observe the 13th National Parliamentary Elections and Referendum, said that there was a lot of enthusiasm and excitement among voters at polling stations until noon today.
He expressed this positive reaction while talking to reporters after visiting the Curzon Hall polling station at Dhaka University on Thursday afternoon.
He expressed hope that the spontaneous participation and enthusiasm of voters will continue till the end of the afternoon like in the morning. Ijabs noted that the citizens of Bangladesh are very keen to exercise their right to vote and are expecting a participatory and credible election.
The top EU observer stressed that the EU Election Observation Mission is carrying out its duties completely impartially and is not part of any political process. Currently, their observers are spread across the country and regular online reports and information are being collected from them.
Ivers Ijabs added that this information is being analyzed closely to ensure a transparent and acceptable assessment. He believes that this massive public presence is of immense importance in ensuring a participatory election.
The EU mission will soon publish its assessment of the quality of the election administration and the overall process. Evers Ijabs said that a preliminary report will be published on February 14, which will contain detailed information on how the election was conducted and what the situation was like on the ground. He said that their job is mainly to observe and collect information so that a transparent picture can be presented to the world in accordance with international standards.
Other members of the EU mission were also present during the visit to the Curzon Hall center. They visited the booths at the center and spoke to the relevant officials to inquire about the progress of the voting.
They believe that the large turnout of voters in the overall election environment will be a major criterion for the acceptability of the election. The diplomatic community concerned believes that this observation report of the European Union will be considered a very important document for the further democratic journey of Bangladesh.
