POBNEWS24, Dhaka Feb 21,2025 : There is no song of awakening consciousness”February 21st, colored with the blood of my brother.. How can I forget.. February colored with the tears of hundreds of mothers who lost their sons…. Despite the lack of hesitation, the nation has observed the great Martyr’s Day and the International Mother Language Day in Bangladesh with due dignity by paying humble tribute to the language heroes. On the occasion of ‘Amar Ekushey’, people from all walks of life paid tribute to the martyrs of the language movement. From the early hours of Thursday, February 21st, thousands of people dressed in black and white rushed barefoot to the Central Shaheed Minar to pay tribute to the language martyrs of 1952. On the occasion of the day, President Mohammad Shahabuddin placed a wreath at the altar of the Central Shaheed Minar at 12:01 am on Thursday. Then, the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, paid tribute by placing a wreath at the Central Shaheed Minar. After paying tribute, he stood in silence for a while, paying deep respect to the martyrs. Earlier, Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Arts Dr. Siddiqur Rahman Khan, DU Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed, Deans of the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Pharmacy and the University Registrar welcomed the President and Chief Advisor in turn. After the Chief Advisor, Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed and judges of the Appellate Division and High Court Division, members of the Advisory Council, ambassadors, high commissioners, diplomats, Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin, Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman, Navy Chief Admiral M Nazmul Hasan, Air Chief Hasan Mahmud Khan, Attorney General Advocate Mohammad Asaduzzaman, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjad Ali, Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Team Director General Major General Abdul Motaleb Sajjad Mahmud paid tributes in succession. Later, DGFI Director General Major General Md. Faizur Rahman, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman, National Security Intelligence (NSI) Director General Major General Abu Mohammad Sarwar Farid, and Dhaka District Deputy Commissioner Tanvir Ahmed paid tribute at the altar of the Central Shaheed Minar on behalf of the district magistrates. Among the political parties and student organizations, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Nationalist Chhatra Dal (JCD), Workers Party, JSD, Communist Party of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal, Samyabadi Dal, Gono Forum, Chhatra Union, Chhatra Front and Chhatra Federation Language paid tribute to the martyrs. Later, the area was opened to the public.
