POBNEWS24, Dhaka Aug 19, 2025 : Calling on the army personnel to be inspired by patriotism and keep the chain of command of the army intact, Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman said, “The people of the country are now looking at the army personnel. You are the future of the country. Therefore, you must be inspired by patriotism and keep the chain of command of the army intact.”
The army chief said this in his speech to the army personnel at the ‘Officers’ Address’ program at Dhaka Cantonment on Tuesday (August 19) morning. High-ranking officers were present in person. Officers from all army establishments joined virtually during this time.
The army chief also said, “The army is a professional organization. Professionalism must be shown while performing duties in the field. It cannot be involved in any vindictive activities.”
In response to various criticisms on the Bangladesh Army issue, he said, “There is nothing to be unhappy about these comments. Those who are doing all this are young. They are the age of our children. They will understand their mistakes when they grow up. Then they will be ashamed of themselves.’
Without mentioning anyone’s name, the army chief said, ‘The allegation of an army member being associated with a political party is under investigation. If the allegation is proven, action will be taken against him. No member of the army can get involved in political activities. An investigation is also underway regarding the allegation of torture against another officer. No one will be spared for moral lapses. However, no one will be punished on the basis of a media trial, if the allegation is proven, action will definitely be taken.’
Army chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman told senior officers, ‘The state spends a huge amount of money to develop an army officer. Therefore, care must be taken in advance so that no one gets involved in crime. If someone gets involved in crime and is sent home, it is nothing but a waste of state money.’
He said, ‘The country is now heading towards elections. The army has made all kinds of preparations to cooperate with the government in conducting free, fair and impartial elections. The soldiers have been on duty in the field for a long time. “I haven’t had to be on the field for such a long time before. So I have to maintain good relations with everyone. If there is a distance, I have to bridge it.”
